Originally standardised in 1943 to replace the M-42, the 'M-43' service shoe was the Army issue equivalent of the 'Boondocker ' which was already in use by the Marine Corps and Navy. These boots used the same rough-out leather construction as their counterparts, adopted for it's durability and water repellency, so there's no need for a canvas or leather lining.
